Leaning Tower of Pisa
Leaning tower – famous for its failings

The leaning tower of Pisa in Italy has become one of the world’s famous monument because of the 4.4 meters it leans out of line and is the one thing that has put the city of Pisa on the map today. The tower itself was constructed around 1174.

The tower of Pisa started to lean soon after the construction reached just three of its eight stories because of the unstable soil it was built on.

The original purpose was to serve as a bell tower and would be reached by going up the narrow spiral stairs of around 294 steps while the building was leaning at a 5 degree angle. If you are one who can get claustrophobic or have a fear of heights then you certainly won’t want to try this.

However, for the more adventurous in spirit and those with the money for the steep admission fee just to have the privilege of experiencing one the worlds most famous buildings can leave a great memory in your scrapbook.
