Cruise – You’re so right about the driving. For those of us from US or Canada, it’s not what we’re used to, and can be hair raising! The scooters zoom through wherever they want — looks like taking their lives in their hands to me.

Umag – Italy’s my fave, but Croatia has some wonderful scenery and history too. I thought both Split and Dubrovnik were awesome.

I lived in Italy for 3 years and I am from the United States. If you do plan on renting a car and you are also from the United States, be aware that there are no lines in most roads, meaning there are no “real” lanes…..and motor cycles whiz through stopped up traffic all the time – the Polizia dont seem to have a problem with it either. Other than that my two favorite cities were Roma and Firenze

It's SO nice to be able to check all the train schedules from home, before you leave for your trip. This is a great help in figuring out what schedules will be reasonable and work well.
